Project Status: Planning

Project Overview:

Duluth Parks and Recreation is conducting a planning process, including community engagement efforts, to establish a renewed vision for Hillside Sport Court, to identify preferred park amenities, and to prioritize park improvements that will best serve community needs.

The park system’s comprehensive long-range plan, Essential Spaces: Duluth Parks, Recreation, Open Space & Trails Plan, recommends updated park plans for several spaces in the Hillside, including the Hillside Sport Court. The Essential Spaces Plan also calls for prioritizing equity-focused park improvement projects, and the Hillside Sport Court directly serves community members living in medium- and high-priority equity areas. Additionally, suggestions to improve the park space have been submitted to the City and require further review and input from community members.

Project Update:

An interactive community input session took place on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 6:00pm – 7:30pm at the Central Hillside Community Center located at 12 E. 4th Street. Staff are reviewing the input provided by attendees and preparing a draft plan for Hillside Sport Court. A draft plan will be presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission at the June 14, 2023 meeting.

The presentation provided at the May 17 community input session is provided in the Important Documents Section below.
