Youth on Trails - FAQ

Mtb Logo Blue

Youth on Trails is a recreation program that provides youth across Duluth increased access to time outside, exercise, and skill-building through mountain biking activities.

The equipment and programming provided in this initiative will create mountain biking skill sessions, group rides, and bike maintenance clinics for youth city-wide and welcome underrepresented groups to experience this activity cost-free.

Duluth Parks & Recreation is excited to launch and implement this initiative. Programming and equipment made possible by a grant from the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission, through the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.

The impact is much more than getting kids on bikes. Engaging youth in mountain biking across the community builds friendships, self-esteem, comfort in the outdoors, creates relationships with natural and recreational resources, and improves health and wellness. Many youth are not able to participate in mountain biking due to equipment cost and access to instruction, and this initiative aims to get more kids involved.

This project creates the foundation for partnerships between numerous organizations to provide quality bike equipment, instruction, and experiences to new and diverse audiences of youth throughout the community for years to come

Current activities are designed for youth ages 6-16, and all levels of bike experience are welcome. Activities are designed to help first-time bikers, as well as to help build mountain biking-specific skills as ability levels allow.
