Street Lighting

In order to promote the safety and welfare of the citizens and residents of the City, the Street Lighting Utility was established in 2009. This utility provides for the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the street and traffic lighting system in the city. There are over 100 signalized intersections and approximately 2,500 streetlights that the City operates and maintains.

Streetlights

There are two types of streetlights in the city of Duluth, those owned by the City and those owned by Minnesota Power.

Any streetlight mounted to a wooden pole belongs to Minnesota Power. If you have a question or concern about one of these streetlights, please call Minnesota Power at 722-2641. A computer answering machine will ask you to state the name of the person that you wish to speak with. Answer by saying "operator", and you will be connected to a person in customer service.  They will want to know the exact location and a description of what is happening, such as being totally out, cycling on and off, or damaged.

Any other streetlight belongs to the City. If you have a question or concern about one of these streetlights, please call 730-4420.
