Benefits Overview
The City of Duluth offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits program which includes medical, prescription drug, dental, life, and disability coverage. A pension plan, deferred compensation program, flexible spending accounts (FSA), health care savings plan, and employee assistance program round out the City’s benefits program. In addition, the City has generous provisions for vacation, holidays, family and medical leave, and other types of paid and unpaid leave.
Please note that coverage and/or participation in most City benefits is not automatic. You must take certain actions to participate. Therefore, it is important to familiarize yourself with the various options and enroll in those that best meet your needs. Many of the plans are effective for the entire calendar year.
You will have an opportunity to change health, dental, and FSA benefit plan choices once per year during the annual open enrollment period in the fall. Therefore, you may only make a mid-year change if you experience a qualifying life event (e.g., marriage, divorce, birth or adoption, etc.). Depending on the event, you may add or drop dependents from your benefit coverage.
