Diane Desotelle District 2 Councilor

I have lived in Duluth for 27 years where my husband and I raised two children. We are proud to say we have always lived, worked and played in this city owning one car and two bikes. Professionally, I am a civil engineer, educator, and land use planner where I worked for a variety of public and private sector entities. Today, I continue to work volunteer and serve this community through a variety of groups.

·         I was proud to be the city’s very first Natural Resources Coordinator where I helped preserve thousands of acres of Duluth’s open spaces by working with (planning, engineering and parks).

·         I was a project manager for the St. Louis River for the State of Minnesota where I worked with many partners, brought in millions of dollars to clean up historic pollution and restore habitat

·         I’ve owned a small consulting business where I worked with cities and counties on land use, natural resources, and other environmental planning and policy issues

·         I’ve taught math, hydrology, and environmental courses in our schools including middle and high schools and the University of MN – Duluth. I’ve worked with Sea Grant to educate decision makers on land use planning that protects natural resources.

·         As a volunteer, I advocate with Chum and Stepping on Up to improve the lives of others and the health of our downtown. I am also active with Citizens Climate Lobby and MN Interfaith Power and Light because adapting and mitigating to a changing climate is critical.
