City Council

Councilor David Clanaugh has been a Duluth resident for more than twenty‑six years. Raised in rural northern Wisconsin, he is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys canoeing, kayaking, hiking, skiing, gardening, and hunting. He and his wife, Tracie, have three adult children who graduated from East, Denfeld, and Harbor City schools.

A professional counselor, David is employed by the State of Minnesota’s Direct Care and Treatment division. His career also includes leadership and service roles with several Duluth‑area nonprofits, including the Duluth Area Family YMCA, Damiano of Duluth, CHUM, and Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity. Earlier in his career, he worked as a journalist and educator in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

David serves as a Director with the Minnesota Association of Professional Employees and as Secretary of the Twin Ports African‑American Men’s Group. He is also a member of the Two Harbors Curling Club.
