Criminal Division
The City Attorney's Criminal Division prosecutes gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor criminal offenses and petty misdemeanor and city ordinance violations. Prosecutors function as ministers of justice in the court system, promote safety for crime victims and the public, and seek to hold offenders accountable for their actions.
Generally, the City Attorney's Office does not discuss or negotiate criminal cases prior to the initial court appearance.
If you are represented by an attorney, your attorney should answer any questions you have concerning your case. If you are not represented by an attorney, you can contact our office in the following manner:
- For traffic citations: If you wish to contest a traffic citation, you must contact the Court Administrator at 218-221-7560 (opt. 4) and request a hearing on the citation. You will have an opportunity to meet with the prosecutor at one of your upcoming hearings.
- For other citations and charges. Once your case has a court file number, you may email our office at duluthprosecutor@duluthmn.gov with the court file number, your contact information and any other information you would like us to have.
Our prosecutors will be available to discuss your case at the hearing date, so it is not necessary to contact our office prior to the hearing.
For status and scheduling information call the Court Administrator at 218-221-7560 (opt. 4) and ask about the status of your case or request a schedule change. For closed cases, public information is available at http://www.mncourts.gov/publicaccess.
The City Attorney’s Office does not take payment of fines. See The MN Judicial Branch’s options and contact information at http://www.mncourts.gov/Pay-a-Fine.aspx
The Duluth courthouse has walk-in appointments for resolving warrants on Wednesday (8:00 AM and 1:00 PM) and Thursday (8:00 AM) each week.
