City of Duluth to temporarily close 400 block of W First Street

 

 

 

[DULUTH, MN] Beginning April 13, 2026, the City of Duluth will close the 400 block of W First Street for approximately six weeks to support restoration work at the school district building on the corner of First Street and Fifth Avenue West. A detour will be posted. Sidewalk access in front of the building will be closed during the work but will be open on the City Hall side of the street. Vehicle access to the Civic Center Parking Facility will be always maintained.

On-street parking near City Hall will be reduced during this time.  Drivers should allow extra time and consider alternative routes to get to their destinations.

Detour routes are as follows:

 

  • Westbound traffic: First Street > Fourth Avenue W > Superior Street > Fifth Avenue W > First Street
  • Eastbound traffic: First Street > Fifth Avenue W > Superior Street > Fourth Avenue W > First Street
