Duluth City Council elects 2026 leadership at first meeting of the year
[DULUTH, MN] On Monday, at their first scheduled Council session in 2026, members of Duluth City Council elected new leadership for the year. Outgoing Council President Terese Tomanek called for the vote of previously nominated at-large city councilor Lynn Marie Nephew to succeed her as council president, and for fifth district city councilor Janet Kennedy to be seated as vice president. The council voted unanimously in favor of the elections. This will mark Nephew’s first year as city council president and Kennedy’s second time as vice president.
Duluth city council leadership terms are one year and run January to December.
Council President Nephew also made her council committee assignments for the year. They are as follows:
Finance committee: Councilor Roz Randorf
Purchasing and Licensing committee: Councilor Wendy Durrwachter
Personnel committee: Councilor Arik Forsman
Planning and Economic Development committee: Council President Lynn Marie Nephew
Intergovernmental Relations committee: Councilor David Clanaugh
Committee of the Whole: Council Vice President Janet Kennedy
Public Works and Utilities committee: Councilor Diane Desotelle
Public Safety committee: Councilor Terese Tomanek
Recreation, Libraries, and Authorities committee: Councilor Jordon Johnson
