City of Duluth to close a portion of First Street on Wednesday, January 14, 2026

 

 

[DULUTH, MN] The City of Duluth will close a portion of First Street to allow contractors to perform repairs on underground stormwater infrastructure. First street will be closed from Piedmont Avenue to 11th Avenue West beginning early Wednesday morning. Residents will still have access to homes, however, there may be significant access delays and limited times of no access. A posted detour will be in place using Piedmont Avenue, Superior Street, and Mesaba Avenue. This closure is expected be in place most of the workday and the road is expected to reopen by the evening. Please consider alternative routes, if possible, during this work to minimize delays.

 

Detour is recommended as follows:

 

Eastbound: First Street > Piedmont Avenue > Superior Street > Michigan Street > Mesaba Avenue > First Street

 

Westbound: First Street > Mesaba Avenue > Michigan Street > Superior Street > Piedmont Avenue > First Street
