Duluth Traverse 2022 construction ribbon cutting to be held October 19 at 4:00 pm

[Duluth, MN] The City of Duluth and Cyclists of Gitchee Gumee Shores (COGGS) invite the public to a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 4:00 pm to celebrate the 2022 completion of multiple segments of the Duluth Traverse. The event will take place at the Central School segment of the Duluth Traverse. Parking for the event will be along 298-224 W 13th St, Duluth, MN 55806. There is limited space available and attendees are encouraged to enjoy the Duluth Traverse and bike to the event, if possible. COGGS will host a group bike ride of the new Central School segment immediately following the ribbon cutting.

“We are looking forward to celebrating these new Duluth Traverse trail segments and expressing our appreciation to COGGS leadership and volunteers who are committed to completing the Duluth Traverse and expanding neighborhood trail connections throughout the City,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Jessica Peterson. “Neither the City nor COGGS could accomplish this important work on our own, and the City continues to value the efforts of this member-driven community organization.”

The construction completed in 2022 increases connectivity for neighborhoods and continuity along the Duluth Traverse. A map included below displays the previous and new segment of the Duluth Traverse. With nearly five new miles of trail recently completed, the total length of the spine of the Duluth Traverse multi-use trail is now 42 miles, stretching from Chambers Grove Park to Lester Park. Only two miles of roadway connectors remain to be completed in the Duluth Traverse.

In 2020, the City of Duluth was awarded $889,198 from the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission (GMRPTC) Legacy Grant Program to support the completion of the western half of the Duluth Traverse and installation of critical trail connections. COGGS has been a dedicated partner throughout the development of the Duluth Traverse. This year, COGGS funded and constructed the Central School segment.
