A portion of 21st Avenue East to close for up to two weeks due to sewer repair

[Duluth, MN] A portion of 21st Avenue East will be closed to all traffic beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, March 1, due to construction needed to repair a storm sewer pipe. The Avenue will be closed between East 3rd and 4th Street. A hole in a section of the storm sewer pipe was found recently during a routine inspection. Crews want to repair the hole before the annual spring runoff season begins. Work is expected to take up to two weeks to repair.

Crews will be placing heat blankets on the impacted area tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. this is done to help thaw the ground to minimize the impact to other nearby infrastructure. Traffic barricades will be in place before that time.

A detour will be put in place around the work area. East 2nd and East 4th Street and North 19th Avenue East will divert traffic around the area.
