Kitchi Gammi (Brighton Beach) Park Lakewalk Trail Extension Now Open
[Duluth, MN] A new paved trail is now open for bicycle and pedestrian use through Kitchi Gammi (Brighton Beach) Park. This new section of trail is an extension of the Lakewalk, connecting to U.S. Bicycle Route 41, which follows Scenic 61 from Duluth to Two Harbors.
Motor vehicle access to the park, including parking, will not be restored until the road reconstruction project is complete in the spring of 2023. Until then, the only access to the park will be via the Lakewalk trail extension and Lake Superior. Patrons are asked to park vehicles near the sky-blue tourist information hut at Lester Park or the public lot. Parking is not permitted in front of the trail gates or along London Road.
Brighton Beach will close in its entirety in the spring of 2022 due to shoreline restoration, construction, and installation of new park amenities. Due to short and long-term closures for construction, no events, programming, or reservations will be scheduled at Brighton Beach until spring of 2023 at the earliest.
