[DULUTH, MN] The City of Duluth celebrates September as Workforce Development Month, highlighting the many opportunities available to residents to build skills, explore careers, connect with employers, and take the next step toward career advancement.

Throughout September, the City of Duluth’s Workforce Development division will offer programs and events designed to connect residents with new career opportunities and to connect employers with new talent pools. From opportunities for young people entering the workforce to resources for adults seeking new skills or a fresh start, Duluth Workforce Development’s programs demonstrate the strength of Duluth’s collaborative workforce system.

“Workforce Development Month is about more than simply filling jobs. It’s about creating pathways to opportunity and ensuring Duluth’s residents have the skills, connections, and support they need to succeed,” said City of Duluth Workforce and Employee Development Department Director Elena Foshay. “September gives us an opportunity to recognize the organizations, employers, educators, and community members who are working collaboratively to build a stronger local workforce and economy.”

September brings several opportunities to enrich job skills and bolster the regional workforce for employers. A few highlights include the Intro to Human Services class, the Fair Chance Job Fair, and YouthBuild GED completion and construction training in partnership with True North Goodwill.  Duluth Workforce Development is also planning the first Made Here! Manufacturing Expo, which takes place November 9 and 10 at the DECC.

Duluth Workforce Development’s Intro to Human Services training class is recruiting for participation now and begins on September 21, 2026. Residents interested in helping others and beginning their career in the human services field can apply through the Duluth Workforce Development website or by calling (218) 302-8400.

On September 30, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at CareerForce, the Fair Chance Job Fair will connect job seekers who are justice-involved or may face other barriers to employment with employers interested in hiring talent based on skills, experience, and potential. The event provides an opportunity for participants to meet employers, learn about available positions, and explore pathways to employment.

September also highlights YouthBuild, a program for individuals aged 18-24 that offers opportunities to develop job skills, gain hands-on experience, pursue education and credentials, and prepare for long-term success in their careers. YouthBuild demonstrates the importance of investing in young people, retaining young talent, and creating accessible pathways into the workforce.  Interested individuals can apply through Duluth Workforce Development’s Youth Employment Services (YES Duluth) program, or through True North Goodwill.

The Made Here! Manufacturing Expo will give job seekers, students, and community members an opportunity to learn about careers in manufacturing through hands-on experiential activities and connect directly with local employers. Participants will explore career and job opportunities, learn about the skills manufacturing sector employers are seeking, and discover training and advancement pathways in one of the region’s most crucial industries.

The City of Duluth encourages residents to take advantage of September’s workforce development programs, whether they are looking for their first job, considering a career change, seeking additional training, or exploring opportunities for themselves or their families.  CareerForce, also known as the workforce center, is open for drop-in job search help Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

“Every resident deserves the opportunity to find a career where they can contribute, grow, and build a future,” said Director Foshay. “These September events are an invitation for residents to explore what’s possible and for employers to connect with the immense talent in our community.”
