[DULUTH, MN] The City of Duluth will close the intersection of W Superior Street and 27th Avenue W beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2026 as work continues on the West Superior Street reconstruction project. The project includes the complete reconstruction of W Superior Street, including the roadway and underground utilities, between Carlton Street and W Michigan Street.

W Superior Street remains closed to traffic between 18th Avenue W and W Michigan Street, except for local access to 16th Avenue W. Pedestrian access is being maintained to businesses east of 18th Avenue W and all other businesses along the corridor will continue to have both vehicle and pedestrian access.

A signed vehicle detour will direct traffic along W First Street onto 24th Avenue W to W Michigan Street. All-way stops will be added along the detour route and the intersection of 27th Avenue W and W Michigan Street will be converted to an all-way stop due to signal work in the intersection.

The Cross-City Trail will be closed at 27th Avenue W with traffic detoured onto W First Street.

This phase of construction includes reconstruction of the W Superior Street and 27th Avenue W intersection which will improve access during later phases of construction. The intersection is expected to reopen in November. Construction for the 2026 season is anticipated to be complete in November. The overall project will be completed in three construction phases, with final completion anticipated in 2028.
