[DULUTH, MN] Duluth firefighters will host their annual September 11 memorial stair climbing event in AMSOIL Arena on Thursday, September 11, at 8:46 am. Firefighters from the Duluth Fire Department, Air National Guard Fire, Lake Superior College fire students, and other local fire departments will participate in the climb after a moment of silence at 8:46 am, the time Flight 11 into the North Tower 25 years ago on September 11, 2001.

Firefighters will pay tribute to FDNY firefighters by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. The firefighters will climb the stairs at AMSOIL Arena at the DECC to remember the 343 firefighters and other service providers who lost their lives while saving others during the historic event.  Participants are expected to take 25-35 minutes to complete the 2,200-step climb. Firefighters will be fully dressed in turnout gear with air packs, just as those who responded to the Towers on September 11, 2001. The event will serve as a means for first responders to fulfill the promise never to forget those tragic events and the sacrifices made.
