City of Duluth seeking election judges for November general election

 

 

[DULUTH, MN] The City of Duluth is seeking residents to serve in the role of election judge for the upcoming November 3 general election.

 

Election judges are trained to handle all aspects of voting at the polling place. Election judges are responsible for the administration of election procedures in the voting place on election day. Service as an election judge is a chance to learn about elections and is an important service to the community.

Some responsibilities of election judges include (but are not limited to):

  • Open and close the polls (judges work from 6:00 a.m. to about 9:00 p.m.)
  • Hold responsiblity for all election materials.
  • Ensure only qualified voters are permitted to vote.
  • Ensure all election laws are followed.
  • Distribute ballots.
  • Ensure voter privacy is maintained.
  • Assist voters requesting assistance.
  • Maintain order in the precinct throughout the day.
  • Certify the precinct election results.

 

Residents must be eligible to vote in Minnesota and be able to read, write, and speak English in order to serve as an election judge. Students 16 and 17 years old can be election judge trainees. Election judges can choose to be volunteers or be compensated for their service. Employers are required to give employees who serve as election judges time off from work without a reduction in pay, with certain qualifications. Residents interested in serving as an election judge can apply online at https://forms.duluthmn.gov/Forms/Election-Judge-Application. The City Clerk's office is asking applications be turned in by September 23, 2026.
