Update to Saturday, August 8th Shooting

Update:

On Tuesday, August 11, Duluth Police Investigators arrested 42-year-old Chicago, Illinois resident Michael Triplett for pending charges of three counts of Second Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Intentionally Discharge a Firearm Under Circumstances that Endanger the Safety of Another, Reckless Discharge a Firearm within a Municipality, and Prohibited Person from Possessing of a Firearm. This is in relation to the shooting that occurred on Saturday, August 8.

On Aug 8th, 2026, at 1:27 a.m., a Duluth Police Officer working in the downtown area heard the sounds of what they believed to be gunshots and responded to the area immediately.   About the same time a report to 911 of a shooting occurred in the 100 block of W 1st St in Duluth.  Several people were found in the area.  Two people were found to have minor superficial injuries that were not life threatening.  One declined medical attention and one was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.  Further investigation showed that a suspect, had fled the area on foot after firing multiple rounds from a firearm into the sidewalk.   No arrests have been made, and this remains an open and active investigation.  Currently, a suspect description is not available.  No further information is planned for release at this time.  Anyone with information about this event is encouraged to contact the Duluth Police Violent Crimes Unit at 218-730-5050.
