Annaka Peterson to start in August

 [DULUTH, MN] The City of Duluth announces its selection of Annaka Peterson to serve in the newly expanded position of Sustainability and Resiliency Officer. Peterson brings a strong and diverse background including work in Minnesota, the United States, and international experience.

“I’m excited to welcome Annaka to the City’s leadership team,” said Mayor Roger Reinert. “A prior opening in this position gave us the opportunity to expand the role. Annaka will help advance sustainability and resiliency efforts across all aspects of City operations. She brings unique international experience to the table, and an ability to take a high-level view of City operations. When we are not energy diverse and infrastructure resilient, it costs the city money. Sustainability is about both the environment and the City budget.”

The Sustainability and Resiliency Officer (SRO) position is responsible for enhancing City policies, programs, and initiatives that promote environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, resilient transportation systems, and sustainable utility management. The SRO will also advise on ordinances and resolutions and serve as liaison to the Duluth Energy Commission and Transportation Commission. The SRO is also an external liaison to the broader community, fostering collaboration on sustainability and resiliency for City of Duluth energy use, transportation, and utilities.

Peterson is expected to begin work with the City on Monday, August 10, 2026.
