Joint Statement from Mayor Roger Reinert and Chief Mike Ceynowa Regarding Recent Duluth Shootings
Recently, the Duluth community has experienced three separate shootings. Through the investigation, DPD has viable leads to each of these incidents and is actively following up on.
"At this time, there is no evidence to indicate that these three incidents are connected," said Police Chief Mike Ceynowa. "We are seeing commonalities that most of those involved in these incidents are juveniles that make it unlawful for them to possess a firearm. Those involved in these incidents are violent offenders who are choosing gun violence as a means to resolve their differences."
“The City of Duluth remains a safe place for those who live, work, and play, and gun violence of any kind is unacceptable in our community,” said Mayor Roger Reinert. “I am asking two things from our community in response. First, if you see something, say something and call 911. Second, if you’re a firearm owner, always secure your firearm. Please lock, store, and secure them away from those who should not have access."
The Duluth Police Department is working tirelessly to solve these crimes. As more details become available, we will share them with our community. If anyone has any information on these incidents, please call DPD's Violent Crimes Unit at (218)-730-5050.
