Duluth Fire Department free carbon monoxide alarm install program ending soon

[DULUTH, MN] The Duluth Fire Department still has a quantity of carbon monoxide alarms to install in qualifying homes in the City of Duluth, thanks to funding by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal. The units will be installed on a first come, first served basis by a member of the Duluth Fire Department.

Residents of the City of Duluth can request installation of a free carbon monoxide detector by emailing fireinspector@duluthmn.gov, or by calling (218) 730-4401. Please leave a voicemail. Requests must be made by July 9, 2026 to qualify.

Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless, tasteless gas that can cause fatality when exposed to it for prolonged periods or large quantities. Sources of carbon monoxide include furnaces, water heaters, stoves, fire places, generators, grills, and vehicle exhaust. Just like a smoke alarm, a carbon monoxide alarm is a critical piece of safety equipment for every home.
