The City of Duluth's Planning and Economic Development department celebrates Building Safety Month in May, announces public informational event

[DULUTH, MN May is Building Safety Month, and the City of Duluth’s Planning and Economic Development department is celebrating. Established 46 years ago, the purpose of Building Safety Month is to increase awareness around the importance of building code and highlight the crucial role that building safety professionals play in protecting billions of lives around the world. The administration of modern and regularly updated building codes helps individuals and businesses create safe and sustainable structures.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am the Planning and Economic Development department will host a short 50-minute public informational event in Room 330 of Duluth City Hall for those that want to learn more about the building code. Attendees of the informational event will learn about the building permitting process from initial application, to plan review, to inspection. This presentation will be a simple overview of the process and will not provide any in-depth or detailed information on the current state building code or the proposed updated city zoning code.

The city is requesting that parties interested in attending the event please RSVP by submitting their name and email address to permittingservices@duluthmn.gov to reserve a seat. Seating is limited to 50.

Planning and Economic Development may hold similar informational events in the fall, as well. Information about future events will be posted on the City’s website.
