Structure fire on 600 block of Woodland Avenue

[DULUTH, MN] Duluth Fire Department responded at just before 7:00 am on Sunday, May 10, 2026 to a report of a structure fire on the 600 block of Woodland Avenue. Firefighters from Woodland, UMD, Lakeside, Downtown, Duluth Heights, and Spirit Valley responded to the fire, which appeared to have started in the porch and was showing through the roof on the front portion of the structure upon firefighters’ arrival on scene.

Firefighter strategy switched to a defensive one, as the building was fully involved in fire. Callbacks were initiated to ensure the city had adequate firefighter coverage for other calls during the incident.

The upper level of the duplex/triplex was vacant at the time of the incident. The lower level’s tenants self-evacuated safely. No injuries have been reported in the incident. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from damaging other structures or exposures.

The structure is considered a total loss, and damage is estimated at approximately $270K. The incident is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal’s office.

Duluth Fire Department thanks its partners St. Louis County/911 dispatch, the American Red Cross, Mayo Clinic Ambulance, Minnesota Power, and Duluth Police Department for their assistance in the response.
