Traffic Advisory: Fitgers 5K

The Fitgers 5K Race will be held Saturday morning, April 18th, with the race beginning at 9 a.m. Starting at 8 a.m., Superior Street from Fitgers to 8th Avenue East will be closed for race setup.  At 8:30 a.m. the road closures below will be in place:

    • Superior Street from the Fitger’s parking ramp to 8th Avenue East will be closed from 8 – 11 a.m.
    • Superior Street from Lake Avenue to 2nd Avenue East will be closed from 8:30 to approx. 9:30 a.m. (Lake Avenue will remain open)
    • Superior Street from 2nd Avenue East to the Fitger’s parking ramp will be closed from 8:30 to approx. 10:15 a.m.
    • The Northbound right lane of the Lake Avenue viaduct over I-35 will be closed from 8:30 – 10 a.m. Northbound traffic will be restricted to the left lane.
    • The I-35 Northbound on-ramp and Southbound off-ramp at Lake Avenue will be closed from 8:30 – 10 a.m. Southbound traffic should instead exit at 5th Avenue West. Vehicles looking to use Northbound I-35 from Canal Park should instead use 5th Avenue West from Railroad Street, or the on-ramp from Michigan Street near 2nd Avenue East.
    • Harbor Drive will be closed between the DECC West Gate and Railroad Street
    • Railroad Street will be closed from Harbor Drive to South Lake Avenue
    • Lake Place Drive will be closed
    • The DECC East Gate will also be closed
    • DECC traffic must approach via Railroad Street from the West or via 5th Avenue West
    • DECC traffic will enter via the North Gate on Railroad Street and will exit via the West Gate or parking ramp exit
    • Canal Park and Park Point traffic must approach via Lake Avenue, either from Northbound I-35 or from Superior Street.

Parking restrictions begin at 7 a.m. on Superior Street from Lake Avenue to 8th Avenue East, Vehicles parked in the no parking zones after 7 a.m. will be ticketed and towed.

DECC area, Harbor Drive and Railroad Street traffic should return to normal by 10:30 a.m. All traffic should return to normal by approximately 11 a.m.

Duluth Police Department is asking drivers to use caution when in the area of this event.
