West Superior Street reconstruction project advances
[DULUTH, MN] The City of Duluth recently opened bids for its West Superior Street reconstruction project, which is a complete reconstruction of W Superior Street, including the road surface and underground utilities, between Carlton and W Michigan Streets. Construction is expected to begin in May in the W Michigan Street intersection. The project is anticipated to be completed in 2028.
Prior to each phase of construction, the City of Duluth and the contractor will host a public open house meeting to provide updates on the project schedule and expected construction impacts.
The City of Duluth is making a project website, westsuperiorstreet.com, available to the public to provide project updates, the final design, and a map that will be updated with current closures, detour routes, and parking locations in the area. The City also has a web subscription for the West Superior Street project that allows the public to sign up to receive meeting invitations, weekly updates, traffic control changes, and other project information. The public can sign up for those updates at duluthmn.gov/web_subscriptions/.
The West Superior Street project is primarily funded through a Rebuilding America Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grant through the US Department of Transportation and an Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) Match Program Grant through the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Additional funding is from Municipal State Aid for Streets and local utility funds. There will be no assessments to neighboring properties for the project.
