City of Duluth to participate in statewide tornado drill tomorrow

[DULUTH, MN] For decades, the state of Minnesota has conducted Severe Weather Awareness Week in partnership with the National Weather Service and local governments. Severe Weather Awareness Week is April 13 through April 17, 2026, and Thursday, April 16 is Tornado Drill Day. On Thursday, the City of Duluth will take part in a statewide tornado drill as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week events. Participating counties and municipalities are encouraged to sound their outdoor warning sirens at 1:45 pm and 6:45 pm so residents may practice their tornado sheltering plans. Outdoor warning sirens will sound in a simulated tornado warning. The first drill at 1:45 pm is intended for institutions and businesses. The evening drill at 6:45 pm is intended for second shift workers and homes and families.

The City of Duluth encourages residents to take advantage of the practice warning sirens on Thursday, April 16, 2026 to practice their tornado sheltering plans and discuss a warning response with their families.
