Structure Fire
At approximately 12:25 this afternoon the Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 1802 E 2nd St in Duluth. While responding to the scene crews were notified there was a report of smoke in the hallway. Upond arrival crews found moderate smoke on the main floor and found the source of the smoke to be a fire in the kitchen of one of the apartments. Duluth Police Officers had arrived on scene and assisted in directing people to evacuate the building. Crews entered the apartment with a hoseline and quickly extinguished the fire. Other crews began a search of the apartment and removed four dogs from the fire apartment. All of the dogs had some smoke inhalation but appeared to be fine once out in the fresh air. Crews cleared the building occupants and began searching for fire extention. The fire was able to be contained to the apartment of origin but there was some smoke damage to other areas of the building. Damage estimates are at $50,000. The Duluth Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire. Displaced occupants are being assisted by the property managment to supply temporary housing. There were no injuries from this fire. The Duluth Fire Department would like to thank Duluth Police Department, Saint Louis County Dispatchers and Minnesota Power for their assistance.
