City of Duluth provides plow operations update

Friday, April 3, 2026 3:00 PM

[DULUTH, MN] Duluth is sitting currently between two low-pressure systems, with the next one set to begin dropping snow later this afternoon, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service in Duluth. With temps being a bit warmer, and the sun’s angle being a bit higher, melting has already begun with the snowpack from the first system. The Friday to Saturday system is forecast to bring another six inches or snow and mixed precipitation, so road conditions are likely to continue being slushy and messy. Winds are expected to gust up to 40 mph overnight, so travelers should expect limited visibility. Slush and water may also continue to pool on roadways, which can cause hydroplaning. Travelers should exercise extra caution if they must be on the roads.

City of Duluth snowplow operators are still clearing snow/slush and ice from P1 and P2 roadways until early evening, at which time most operators will take a rest break until 2:00 am.  A few operators will stay on through night to keep P1 roadways clear for emergency vehicles. Snowplow operators are finding soft road conditions to be an issue and are adjusting their blade height to avoid damaging road surfaces. The City of Duluth asks residents to avoid driving if they can, and to give the plow operators plenty of room if they must be on the roads. Remember to always take it slow on snow, slush, and ice.

Parked vehicles and illegally parked vehicles continue to be an issue that hampers plowing progress, so please be mindful of parking regulations, or risk your vehicle being ticketed and/or towed. Alternate side parking is on the odd side of the street this week. On Sunday, cars parking on alternate side routes must move their car to the even side of the street between 4pm and 8pm. Compliance with alternate side parking will help plow operators in cleaning up narrow P2 roads.

Residents can follow the National Weather Service in Duluth on social media or the web to keep up to date with their forecasts.

The City of Duluth will provide updates as conditions warrant. The City thanks residents for their patience and understanding as crews work to maintain roads during and after snow events. Please stay safe while traveling.
