City of Duluth monitoring winter weather forecast

Wednesday, April 1, 2026 | 5:00 PM

[DULUTH, MN] The National Weather Service in Duluth is forecasting a winter weather advisory tonight through Friday that is expected to produce two to four inches of wet and sloppy snow beginning after 8:00 PM this evening. With road and sidewalk surfaces being relatively warm, residents should expect snow on roadways and sidewalk surfaces to compact and make travel/walking more treacherous.

Due to the above average temperatures causing some thawing over the past couple of weeks, the risk of plow damage is higher. Areas with gravel surfaces may be more challenging for our plow operators to clear, as the frost has been weakening in those locations. We kindly ask residents for patience, as these areas may require more time to clear due to the soft ground.

Our Street Maintenance team will work to clear the Priority 1 street network according to our snow and ice removal policy while the snow is falling, and will clear P2s and P3s as conditions allow.

The City of Duluth asks residents to avoid driving in the snow if they can, and to give the plow operators plenty of room to operate if they must be on the roads. Remember: take it slow on snow and ice.

The City of Duluth will provide updates on snowplow operations as conditions warrant. The City of Duluth thanks residents for their patience and understanding as crews work to maintain roads during and after snow events. Please stay safe while traveling.
