City of Duluth monitoring winter storm forecast
Saturday, March 14, 2026 | 5:00 PM
[DULUTH, MN] The National Weather Service in Duluth is forecasting a winter storm this evening that is expected to produce heavy snow and strong winds. Snow is expected to begin falling late tonight/early Sunday morning and last until Monday morning. Several inches of snow are forecast for Duluth over the duration of the storm. With road and sidewalk surfaces being relatively warm, residents should expect high amounts of compaction of snow on roadways and sidewalk surfaces. Winds are expected to gust around 40 mph throughout the storm, diminishing visibility significantly and making travel treacherous. If you can avoid traveling during the storm, you should. If you must travel, please pack an emergency weather kit.
In addition to poor travel conditions, residents should plan for the possibility of power outages and downed trees due to the high winds. Residents should also expect drifting snow.
City of Duluth snowplow operators have already put in about 70 hours since Monday evening. Plow operations will begin at 2:00 AM Sunday morning and continue throughout the day in the 16 plow trucks and 22 motor graders available.
Alternate side parking changeover is Sunday between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm. It is imperative that residents move their vehicles from the even side of the street to the odd side of the street Sunday between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Drivers who move their car too early or too late will cause plow operators to be unable to plow a street. Enhanced parking enforcement will be employed, and non-compliant vehicles will be ticketed and/or towed.
The City of Duluth asks residents to avoid driving if they can, and to give the plow operators plenty of room to operate if they must be on the roads. Remember: take it slow on snow and ice.

The City of Duluth will provide updates on snowplow operations as conditions warrant. The City of Duluth thanks residents for their patience and understanding as crews work to maintain roads during and after snow events. Please stay safe while traveling.
