City of Duluth provides plow operations evening update

Wednesday, February 18, 2026 | 8:00 PM

[DULUTH, MN] Snowfall and wind strength have slowly diminished throughout the day today, and the National Weather Service in Duluth has downgraded the current weather system from a blizzard warning to a winter weather advisory. NWS staff is forecasting an additional one to three inches throughout the evening and into tomorrow as the system leaves the region. Road conditions are still difficult in spots due to heavy snow compaction. If you can avoid traveling during this storm, you should. If you must travel, please pack an emergency weather kit.

City of Duluth snowplow operators have made significant progress maintaining the Priority 1 (main) road network today, and have completed one pass on over half of the Priority 2 (residential) roadways. Plow operators were slowed by the snowfall’s moisture coefficient for most of the day, as well as the whiteout conditions reducing visibility. Plow operators are now taking a rest until 2:00 AM, at which time they’ll return with the full available truck and grader fleet of forty vehicles to clean up P1s, and further their progress into P2s and P3s (alleyways and gravel minimum maintenance roads). As usual, the City has a few plow operators working into the overnights to assist with emergency vehicle access and to keep P1 roads clear.

Parked vehicles and illegally parked vehicles continue to be an issue that hampers plowing progress, so please be mindful of parking regulations, or risk your vehicle being ticketed and/or towed. Alternate side parking is on the odd side of the street this week.

The City of Duluth will provide updates on snowplow operations as conditions warrant. The City thanks residents for their patience and understanding as crews work to maintain roads during and after snow events. Please stay safe while traveling.
