Update to Homicide Incident
3 p.m. 2/18/26:
After further investigation into the homicide incident that took place on Tuesday, February 10, it was determined that 30-year-old Donald Felver and Darius Handy were in a verbal argument prior to the homicide incident. A black Chevy Tahoe that was involved in the homicide incident, was later found to be registered to Felver. Officers executed a search warrant on that vehicle and recovered multiple shell casings.
These shell casings, along with shell casings recovered at the scene of the homicide, and the casings that were located at the St. Louis County Sheriff Deputy involved shooting later that day were sent to the BCA, who ruled with a high confidence these casings were fired from the same firearm. However, additional forensic testing is needed with the ATF to confirm the ballistic match. No further information will be released at this time.
10 a.m. 2/11/26:
The Duluth Police Department is releasing the name of the victim involved in Tuesday’s fatal shooting. 33-year-old Duluth resident Darius Handy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Handy.
It is believed both the suspect and victim are known to each other and there is no active threat to the public. The relation to this homicide incident and the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Deputy involved shooting is still under investigation.
4:40 p.m. 2/10/26:
Officers responded to a report of a shooting incident in the 400 block of Piedmont Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located one male deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. This remains an active and ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time. We encourage the public to stay away from the area to allow our officers room to work.
