Duluth Parks and Recreation to host community meeting to review Norton Park improvement plans on Wednesday, January 28

[DULUTH, MN] Duluth Parks and Recreation will host a community meeting to share preliminary design and review plans for improvements to Norton Park on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Norton Park United Methodist Church, located at 436 N 79th Avenue W in Duluth. Attendees of this meeting will have opportunities to provide feedback on the plans and design. All community members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The scope of improvements at Norton Park includes:

  • replacement of the now-removed building with a new picnic pavilion
  • replacement of the playground that is at the end of its useful life
  • addressing drainage problems at the multi-use field to improve useability
  • resetting the supporting park amenities
  • installing an accessible portable restroom
  • constructing new access routes.

Construction on these improvements is expected to take place later in 2026.

In 2025, the City of Duluth applied for and was awarded $350,000 from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Recreation grant program to support this project. Local funding for this project comes from the St. Louis River Corridor Initiative half-and-half tax, the Parks Fund, and the Storm Utility Fund.
