Mayor Roger Reinert and the City of Duluth announce 2026 Artists in Residence with reception on Wednesday, January 21

[DULUTH, MN] Mayor Roger J. Reinert will welcome the 2026 Artists in Residence Lyric Opera of the North (LOON) to City Hall on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 3:30 pm with a reception to showcase the opera company’s 20 years of performances and education in the community.

The event will begin promptly at 3:30 pm in the City Hall rotunda on first floor, with remarks from Mayor Reinert and General Artistic Directors of LOON, Sarah Lawrence and Cal Metts. Baritone Bill McMurray and pianist Bill Munson will give a short performance, courtesy of support from the Boreal Waters Foundation. Guests will then transition to the Mayor’s Reception Room on fourth floor to view Lyric Opera of the North’s visual installation and meet the performers.

Set pieces, past promotional posters, and photographs will be displayed in the Mayor’s Reception Room and will remain in place throughout 2026. The residency will also include monthly noon-hour free public performances in the rotunda. Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Sarah Lawrence and Cal Metts will sing love songs. Friday, March 6, 2026, the Little LOON touring company will present highlights from this year's touring production The Elixir of Love. Additional dates will be announced later in the year.

Light refreshments will be available. The media and public are invited to attend.
