City of Duluth to host ribbon cutting event and interpretive hike at the Incline Stairway Trail on Thursday

Thursday, October 2, 2025 | 3:00 PM ribbon cutting, 4:30 PM interpretive hike | Incline Stairway Trail, intersection of Skyline Parkway and N Seventh Avenue W, Duluth, MN

[DULUTH, MN] Duluth Parks and Recreation and the Duluth Preservation Alliance will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the Incline Stairway Trail on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 3:00 pm.  City of Duluth and Duluth Parks and Recreation staff and community partners will provide remarks during the ceremony.

Following the ceremony, at 4:30 pm, Duluth Parks and Rec and the Duluth Foot Trails Alliance will host a free interpretive hike up and down the stairway. The hike up and down the stairway is approximately one mile, round trip. A shuttle will be available for participants who wish to ride back up to the top of the stairs.  The  Mayor Roger Reinert, City of Duluth staff, and community partners will celebrate the completion of the long-term projects and highlight the features of the newly-renovated park for attendees.

The Incline Stairway once served as part of the historical Incline Railway, which provided transportation to residents from downtown Duluth up the hillside between 1891 and 1939. This event will celebrate the installation of new interpretive signage as well as the historical designation of the site.
