Structure fire with fatality on 600 block of 47th Avenue E

 

[DULUTH, MN] At 2:29 am on Thursday, July 25, Duluth Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on the 600 block of 47th Avenue E. Crews from Lakeside, Headquarters, UMD, and Woodland responded. 6 Engine was first to arrive on scene of a three-story, seven-unit apartment complex at 2:32 am to find no visible flames, but light smoke in the first-floor hallway. Residents were instructed to evacuate, and crews located an active fire inside one unit on the first floor of the complex.

Upon entry to the unit, crews from 6 Engine knocked the fire down, extinguishing the fire within eight minutes of dispatch. Other fire crews assisted six residents and multiple pets in safely evacuating the building. One occupant was found deceased in the apartment of fire origin. No further information about the deceased will be made available at this time.

No other injuries were reported. Damage was limited to the apartment of origin, with damages estimated at $25K. No other residents or pets were displaced.

Duluth Fire Department thanks Mayo Ambulance, Duluth Police Department, and St. Louis County 911 Emergency Services for their assistance in the response. This incident is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal’s office.
