City of Duluth and the Nature Conservancy begin forest management work in city forest areas

[DULUTH, MN] The City of Duluth and The Nature Conservancy will have crews out on City lands periodically over the next several weeks to provide some land management work that includes brush cutting and forest management. Areas that will have some brush cutting and forest management work include Lester Park, city land near Lake Superior College, Quarry Park, and Lincoln Park.

Most of the brush cutting done at these and other locations will be done in service of clearing buckthorn, a non-native invasive species that crowds out native plants and displaces native shrubs and small trees in the mid-layer of the forest.

The Nature Conservancy, a dedicated partner in our Natural Resources Management Program, will be conducting this work on behalf of the City of Duluth under its Natural Resources Management Program, which can be viewed here: https://duluthmn.gov/parks/natural-resources/natural-resources-management-program/. This work is being conducted at no cost to the City of Duluth.

More information about The Nature Conservancy can be located here: https://www.nature.org/en-us/
