Structure fire at 15 Burger Drive
[DULUTH, MN] Wednesday evening, Duluth Fire crews responded to the report of fire in a mobile home with people still inside. DFD Number 10 Engine from Gary/New Duluth arrived to find a female with her two children at a ground-floor bedroom window. The crew from 10 Engine quickly broke the window and rescued all three people from the house. They were immediately handed over to Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service for treatment. A search of the home revealed a live dog and cat that were both rescued. Two other dogs were found in the home, but had expired due to smoke inhalation.
The fire was contained to the home. With the amount and size of the fire, the mobile home is a total loss. Fire had extended throughout the home and into void spaces. The home was well involved with fire, with flames coming from a few windows when crews arrived. The mother and two children were taken to a local hospital by Mayo Ambulance for medical assessment and treatment.
Damage is assessed at $150,000 for the building and contents. The American Red Cross is working with the displaced family. Fire companies from Gary/New Duluth, Spirit Valley, Lincoln Park and Downtown responded to the call. Duluth Police Department and Mayo Ambulance were also on scene to assist. DFD thanks these agencies and Saint Louis County 911 Dispatch for their assistance.
The cause of the fire is initially not known. The incident is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.
