Lester Park Golf Course memorial bench pickup date set for November 2

 

[DULUTH, MN] The City of Duluth has approved for Friends of Duluth Public Golf (FODPG) to host a wooden memorial bench pickup date at Lester Park Golf Course. FODPG will facilitate the return of wooden memorial benches to friends and family that were donated to Lester Park Golf Course. On November 2, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, wooden memorial benches currently located at Lester Park Golf Course will be available for individuals to retrieve on a first-come, first-serve basis.

In order to return wooden benches to friends and family members, the City must abide by a set of surplus property regulations, which dictate the means by which City-owned property is allowed to be further distributed for reuse. Amongst the approved means for distribution of property designated as surplus is donation to a registered non-profit entity.  As the local non-profit advocating for public golf and representing our local golfers, the City of Duluth extends its thanks to Friends of Duluth Public Golf for receiving and transferring property onto friends and family for private use and enjoyment so that their memories may continue on.

Memorials and honorariums are especially meaningful ways to recognize friends and loved ones. In this case, the wooden memorial benches were built and installed thanks to donations from the community, and the City wishes to follow procedures that provide community members the opportunity to provide the benches new homes and continued maintenance and caretaking, which is now beyond the City’s resource limitations.

This is a one-time event, and no early birds or pre-requests will be accepted. Individuals interested in picking up a bench must sign a release of liability form and be prepared to load and transport benches on their own.

Location: Lester Park Golf Course Maintenance Garage located along Lester River Road, .3 miles north of the Lester Park Clubhouse.
