Fire Prevention Open House. Open to the public, tour the fire safety trailer, fire station, and register to receive a smoke alarm. Free BBQ and refeshments.

Fire prevention week is October 3-9, 2010. The theme this year is smoke alarms: A sound you can live with. Sixty-three percent of reported home fire deaths happened in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarm. A working smoke alarm doubles your chance of survival in a fire.

About 1/3 of home fires and deaths happened in the months of December, January and February. Heating is the second leading cuase of fire deaths. Most space heater fires are caused by the space heater being too close things that can burn. Last year in Duluth there were 185 structure fires.
