Portion of Lincoln Park to close until further notice to accommodate construction

[DULUTH, MN] The City of Duluth will temporarily close the lower portion of Lincoln Park between W Third and W Seventh Streets to users, effective Monday, May 15 for park and infrastructure improvements.  The trails in the upper portion of the park between W Seventh Street and W Skyline will remain open for use.

The Lincoln Park Mini-Master Plan, adopted in February, 2016, called for major renovations and replacement of existing park amenities and infrastructure.  The park improvement project includes: restoration of the historic stone pavilion with new ADA restroom facilities, playground relocation and replacement, new parking lots, a new nature playscape, new and refurbished picnic pavilions, a new multi-use sport court, accessible trails, and lighting.

Construction is anticipated to last through fall of 2023.  Due to this upcoming and long-term closure for construction, there will be no events, programming or reservations allowed at Lincoln Park until Spring of 2024 at the earliest.

This project is made possible by grant funding from the National Park Service Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program administered by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources Clean Water Fund Competitive Grants Program, the City of Duluth’s Community Development Block Grant Program, and the U.S. Bank Foundation. Additional funding support comes from half-and-half tourism tax proceeds, City of Duluth, Super Bowl Legacy program, and donations from Essentia Health, maurices, St. Luke’s, and Minnesota Power.
