Structure Fire on N 56th Avenue W and Cody Street

[DULUTH, MN] At 9:30 PM on Tuesday, April 11, Duluth Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 515 N 56th Avenue W. Firefighters arrived on scene in just over two minutes to find fire burning on the exterior of the rear of a duplex at the address. The fire was beginning to work into the eaves and attic space. Firefighters quickly extinguished the exterior flames and proceeded into the interior of the building to ensure no fire had spread inside.

All occupants of the building had already safely exited the building, and there were no injuries or medical issues reported.

Assistant Chief Dan Lattner, who was in command at the scene, estimated the damage to the structure to be approximately $10,000 to the exterior of the structure and $2000 in smoke damage to the interior. “Thanks to the quick response and action of 8 Quint, 10 Engine, 2 Engine, 1 Engine, and Rescue 1, this fire remained limited to the exterior of the structure and resulted in no displacement of residents. Great job to all the firefighters involved, and a big thank you to the Duluth Police Department for their assistance in securing the hydrant for us,” said AC Lattner.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Duluth Fire Department’s Fire Marshal’s office.
