NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire
CASE NO.: 14842
INCIDENT DATE: 12/21/2022
INCIDENT TIME: 19:06
INCIDENT LOCATION: 317 W Orange St

At 7:06 p.m. on December 21st the Duluth Fire Department responded for a report of a garage on fire in the Duluth Heights area.  En route to the scene we were advised the garage was fully involvred in fire.  7 Engine was the first to arrive and reported that a detached garage containing 2 vehicles was fully involved.  The garage was near a shed and approximately 20 feet from the house.  A water supply was established from a nearby hydrant and attack lines were advanced to extinguishe the fire.  The fire was being fueled by the two vehicles and other flammable materials in the garage.  The fire was knocked down quickly preventing it from spreading to the shed or home.  The homeowners were working in the garage when the fire started but were able to get a third vehicle out in time to save it as well as escape uninjured.  Heavy snow on the roof contributed to a quick collapse of the structure.  Crews responded from 4, 7, 8, and Headquarters stations.  Crews were returned to service as quickly as possible due to the extreme cold.  Damage estimates are $125,000 to the structure and contents.  Minnesota Power was called to the scene to restore electricty to the home.  The Duluth Police Department also assisted in the response.  No injuries resulted from the incident.  The fire is being investigated by the Duluth Fire Marshalls Office.
