Duluth Firefighters 101 to host 9/11 remembrance stair climb
[Duluth, MN] The Duluth Firefighters 101 will host a September 11 stair climbing event in AMSOIL Arena Sunday, September 11, at 8:46 am. Firefighters from the Duluth Fire Department will participate in the climb after a moment of silence at 8:46 am, the time that Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower.
The firefighters will pay tribute to FDNY firefighters by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. The firefighters will climb the stairs at AMSOIL Arena at the DECC to remember the 343 firefighters and other service providers that lost their lives while saving others during the historic event. Participants are expected to take 25-35 minutes to complete the 2,200-step climb. Firefighters will be fully dressed in turnout gear with air packs, just as those who responded to the Towers on 9/11/2001.
“For over 20 years, we have promised to never forget - to never forget the lives lost - to never forget the 343 firefighters that gave everything,” Duluth firefighter Andrew Olson said. “We are blessed to be here to pay tribute to those 343 people who died in the act of rescue at the Twin Towers, but also to those who were lucky enough to remain on the job after that day. We invite the public to join us in reflection as we climb and remember.”
The Duluth Fire Department would like to thank the DECC for hosting the event.
