Lakewalk shoreline restoration work to take place until November 1
[Duluth, MN] Shoreline restoration construction along the Lakewalk from Leif Erikson Park to South 17th Avenue E will take place until November 1. There are no closures planned for the Lakewalk at this time, but construction activities will be occurring in the area and may affect use of the Lakewalk. The public should use caution along the trail from Leif Erikson Park to South 17th Avenue E for the duration of the project.
Storms in October 2017, April 2018, and October 2018 severely damaged the shoreline along the Lakewalk. Construction for this project will include stabilization of the heavily eroded shoreline, replacement of displaced revetment stone, and planting of native vegetation. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is contributing funding for the completion of this project through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. Restoration of these areas will allow for safe public access and long-term protection of the City’s shoreline infrastructure.
