NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire
CASE NO.: 8492
INCIDENT DATE: 7/24/2022
INCIDENT TIME: 8:57 p.m.
INCIDENT LOCATION: 2600 block of Springvale Rd

At 2057 tonight the Duluth Fire Department responded for a report of a possible structure fire in the 2600 block of Springvale Rd in Piedmont Heights.  7 Engine was the first unit on scene and reported light smoke from an attic vent with no flames visible.  The residents were home at the time and reported the possible fire.  They had experienced lights flickering on the second story and then a power outage on the second floor.  As more fire units arrived to help investigate, the fire was discovered in the attic space above a bathroom.  The ceiling had to be removed in the bathroom to access and extinguish the fire.

There were no injuries to the five residents or any of the firefighters. The family however will be displaced for some time.  The Fire Marshal's office is investigating the fire but the initial investigation indicates the fire was accidental and electrical in nature.  Damage estimates are $20,000 to the home and contents.  Fire crews responded from the Duluth Heights, Lincoln Park, Headquarters and Spirit Valley stations and were on scene for about two hours.  The DFD was assisted by Minnesota Power at the scene.
