SUBJECT: Water Safety
BY: Assistant Chief Brent Consie
NATURE OF INCIDENT:
CASE NO.:
INCIDENT DATE:
INCIDENT TIME:
INCIDENT LOCATION: Beaches of Park Point
The Duluth Fire Department would like to remind boaters to be safe when operating a boat near the beach along Park Point.
All boaters should observe a "no wake" speed of less than 5 mph when they are within 150 feet from shore, from swimmers and from other boats. Underwater swimmers and small children in the vicinity may be difficult to see. Prevent problems before they begin. Safe boating begins with good decisions from the moment the operator leaves the dock.
Boating regulations require the person at the helm to be of legal age to operate a marine vessel and to be in control of the craft at all times. The Duluth Fire Department would also like to remind vessel owners that the person in control at the helm or in other words, the person driving the boat is responsible for their actions, not just the skipper or person in charge of the boat.
The boating community is founded upon safety to teach others about safe practices and good boating habits. Please be watchful of others when underway, demonstrate good seamanship and be the person to promote positive messaging when others do so.
Thank you.
