Perch Lake Landing Closed to Vehicles during Construction
[Duluth, MN] The Perch Lake Landing and Trailhead is closed to vehicles due to a planned habitat restoration project. The initial phase of the restoration is expected to be completed in November 2022. Only authorized personnel are allowed to park at this location during construction. The landing, fishing pier, and Waabizheshikana: the Marten Trail remain open and accessible to pedestrians, anglers, paddlers, cyclists, and other users.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Minnesota Land Trust are working to restore fish and wildlife habitat at Perch Lake. This project involves restoration of aquatic and wetland habitat in the St. Louis River estuary, which is designated by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) as a resource of Outstanding Biological Significance located within the St. Louis River Area of Concern. The Perch Lake Habitat Restoration Project will address existing habitat impairments by excavating accumulated sediment and organic deposits in Perch Lake to restore deep water habitat, increase dissolved oxygen concentrations, and improve overall water quality.
