This afternoon, the Duluth Fire Department responded to the listed address for the report of smoke in the area, possibly a house fire.

Crews arrived on scene to find a one and a half story house on fire in the rear of the building. Crews immediately searched the house and did not find occupants but found a cat that was hiding away from the fire. Other members quickly extinguished the fire and checked for fire spread. Damage was limited to the exterior and some interior rooms. 

No tenants were home at the time of the fire. The cat was brought to the animal emergency room for observation. Damages to the building and contents are estimated at $40,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

Duluth Police and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service were on scene to assist the Fire Department.
