Duluth Fire promotes Mike Consie to Deputy Chief of Operations

[Duluth, MN] The Duluth Fire Department recently promoted Mike Consie to Deputy Chief of Operations. Deputy Chief Consie, who has been with the Department for 21 years, replaces Scott Kleive, who retired in December after 24 years of service.

"Mike is going to be a great addition to our command staff," Chief Shawn Krizaj said. "Mike has been working both internally and externally on preparing for an administrative role. He has experience in our Training Division, was a Company Officer, and has been a part of several projects and programs critical to our Department's response. I am excited to add his talents to our leadership team."

Mr. Consie has been a Duluth resident since 1998. Before that, he lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

"Growing up in the "UP," I learned to appreciate the outdoors, and I found Duluth to be a perfect fit for me with all the outdoor activities and the small community feeling that makes Duluth … "Duluth," Deputy Chief Consie said. "I cannot think of a better place to raise a family."

While serving as a Duluth firefighter, Deputy Chief Consie was inspired by his coworkers to go back to school and obtain a Master's degree. In 2010, he graduated from St. Cloud State University with a Master's in Public Safety Executive Leadership. Deputy Chief Consie has since continued to build on his fire service knowledge by obtaining various certifications in firefighting and incident command.

"I am excited for the opportunity to be a part of our department's leadership team and to assist our members in continuing the great service they offer to our community," Deputy Chief Consie said.
